It’s a hard knock life for B2B content marketers. No matter how much time and creativity you put into creating cracking content, there’s still one problem: how do you get the right eyeballs on it?

Search engines are competitive, with many of the top positions for your keywords home to serious spenders or brands who’ve been investing in SEO for years.

Email is excellent, but building a solid, GDPR-compliant list takes time that you don’t necessarily have.

The typical socials, like Facebook and Instagram, are more pay-to-play than ever these days.

Social media managers will tell you to flock to TikTok, but if you’re in a sector like legal, SaaS or finance, is that where you’ll find your target audience?

B2B marketers, there’s a social platform specifically for you. And it’s a goldmine of opportunity just waiting to be utilised. It’s LinkedIn, and the chances are you aren’t making the most of it.

Here, we’ll cover why you should be – alongside the best hashtags for LinkedIn to supercharge your strategy.

Why LinkedIn?

We at Beesting Digital are unabashed LinkedIn enthusiasts. Our entire business was built off the back of our Director, Heather’s, personal LinkedIn profile.

The power of just one profile has taken us from a fledgling start-up to a band of almost 30 talented copywriters and content strategists, regularly partnering with household name brands.

As a social media platform, LinkedIn is unique in that it was designed specifically for businesses and professionals. It’s a network quite literally built for and from your target audiences, so it’s a brilliant place to generate new leads.

Another good thing about LinkedIn is that it’s free to use. Sure, you can pay to advertise, and there are paid solutions like Sales Navigator, but most of LinkedIn’s capabilities are completely and utterly free.

Unlike other socials, you don’t need to pay to get your content seen by a handful of people. And as long as you’re producing regular, high-value, optimised content for the platform, growth is quick and efficient – and doesn’t rely on virality or sponsorship.

The power of personal profiles

The one place we regularly see our prospects tripping? Personal profiles. The vast majority of businesses think that their company profiles alone will be enough to achieve LinkedIn growth.

The fact is, that’s not the case. Personal profiles have much more power on LinkedIn; they receive more engagement, higher impressions, and most importantly, more leads.

The reason is simple: people buy from people. Specifically, people they like. People are much more likely to connect with the profile of an actual human than they are a brand’s logo – with a company page, there will always be a disconnect.

That’s not to say company profiles aren’t worth investing in. On the contrary, the best LinkedIn strategy will leverage both and use these two profiles to complement each other and maximise growth on each.

Hashtags on LinkedIn

For your LinkedIn content to perform, it must be optimised. Hashtags are a big part of LinkedIn optimisation – they’re what gets your content seen by more eyeballs, particularly eyeballs outside of your existing network.

You must use hashtags wisely if you want to go the distance on LinkedIn. Yet this is one of the biggest mistakes we see people making: they cram their posts by hashtagging every word under the sun.

And this doesn’t work. For one thing, LinkedIn only recognises three hashtags on your post, so adding 30 is a waste of your time (and will leave your post looking like spam – not the kind in a can, either).

Secondly, LinkedIn hashtags are only effective when real users follow them – otherwise, no one will see them. Therefore, it’s essential to be selective about the hashtags you use. It’s a careful process of choosing what is most relevant for the post, what has the highest following, and whether those followers are your target audience.

We thought we’d give you a helping hand here, so we’ve compiled some of the top LinkedIn hashtags for various industries.

Use these as a starting point for your own LinkedIn content strategy – or if you don’t have the time, entrust it with the experts. We offer LinkedIn services, including ghostwriting, training, and full strategy.
